Client
One of the leading online platforms for school and preschool education in the United States has chosen Buffer Group as a long-term partner. The primary goal of this platform is to support the development of all students according to their individual skills and abilities.
Challenge
A customer reached out with a request to help them resolve a data management issue. They have an application that assists users in improving specific areas and needed a way to provide users with information about their progress. This required a platform that would display the user’s starting point, current progress, and goals. However, due to the lack of consolidated data, meeting the business need was a challenge.
Solution
To address the customer’s data management issue, we decided to implement the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process. ETL is a type of data integration that extracts data from various sources, transforms it to meet specific customer requirements, and then loads the transformed data into a data warehouse. This approach allows the customer to consolidate data from multiple sources into a unified repository.
Once the data is refined, it is ready to be delivered to the data warehouse. Our QA team then initiated a rigorous process of validating, verifying, and qualifying the data to ensure accuracy and integrity, ensuring that no data was lost or duplicated during the ETL process. ETL testing enabled the team to detect any issues with the source data at an early stage.
ETL testing encompasses four general categories: testing of a new system, migration testing, change testing, and report testing. By identifying challenges early in the ETL process, we were able to prevent bottlenecks and costly delays.
Results
Implementing the ETL process provided the customer with the capability to address numerous business needs, such as offering users historical data on their application usage, enabling data comparison, and facilitating improvements in specific areas. Additionally, ETL processing allowed for the automation of many tasks that were previously performed manually.
